Havering Young Artist 2018

Congratulations to former FBA pupil Shania who won the overall prize of Havering Young Artist 2018.  Also receiving awards were, Emily and Weimin of Coopers Company and Coborn school for 1st prize for key stage 3 and 5 and Syed of Abbs Cross Academy for 1st prize key stage 4.

Competition judges Natalie Bays, Deputy Manager of the Romford Mercury Shopping Centre and her artist collaborator and primary school teacher Joe Burns were given the hard task of deciding the winners.  The competition has become extremely competitive with almost 70 submissions from 11 schools across the borough.  Winners were announced at a prize giving event held at the gallery on the evening of the 27th September, the event was well attended with parents, teachers and young people. We were joined by the Mayor of Havering and his wife who were both extremely impressed with the talent displayed.

It was no surprise that the Mayor selected Shania’s painting as his favourite even before he knew the judge’s results.  Shania won a £40 Tesco voucher, a blue tooth speaker and a power bank.  Many thanks to Tesco, Tech House Romford and Mercury Shopping Centre for donating prizes.

The exhibition will run until12th October in the Brentwood Road Gallery, please come along to see their amazing work.
